NAWASA is upgrading the water and wastewater network serving St. George’s and the southern corridor. The work includes improvements to the Concord Water Treatment Plant, associated transmission piping and storage, as well as the laying or upgrading of approximately 14 kilometres of water mains and 2 kilometres of sewer mains. The project will also install valves, flow meters and other equipment and will connect the Concord and Annandale supply networks so that water can be moved more reliably into Southern St. George.
The wider programme also includes improvements to wastewater infrastructure from St. George’s into Southern St. George and measures to strengthen monitoring, reduce water losses and make the water system more resilient to changing climate conditions.
The project is intended to improve year-round access to potable water for customers supplied by the Annandale Water Supply System, particularly in Southern St. George. By linking Annandale with the Concord system, upgrading major mains and treatment infrastructure, and reducing losses from the network, NAWASA will have greater flexibility to move water where it is needed and strengthen the reliability of supply in the south.
The project also addresses wastewater needs in St. George’s and the southern corridor. It is a major expansion of both water and wastewater systems.
Residents, businesses and motorists in active work areas may notice excavation, temporary traffic controls, dust and changes to normal road access while pipelines are installed and roads are reinstated.
Traffic arrangements may change as work moves from one section to another.
